Lukas Graham: 7 Years Old - Illustration.
This video is 7 Years Old by Lukas Graham. In this video, they express very meaningful thoughts through the use of lyrics and the video itself. The music video help to convey the message of how a young innocent boy was constantly told to make friends, throughout the different stages of his childhood/adolescence. At times, Especially at the beginning of the music video there is a high frequency of cuts potentially creating the effect of rapidity and may be even a sense of frustration felt by the boy. We are shown the different locations by a use of long shots, creating and setting the mood. In the music video, it illustrates the differences of age as we are shown the young boy with different people of different age groups, potentially showing the progression of life in a way that is subliminal, however, gradually, we get old without realizing and emphasizing the moment of realisation; of how life moves on.
Sam Smith: Lay With Me - Amplification.
This music video is Lay Me Down by Sam Smith. In this video, the director tried to showed the sensation of a man that is deeply in love, to his friend/girlfriend. We can tell through the use of expressions and lyrics that he is needs comfort and love, as he conveys the message of desperation and how he is so dependent on her. The low and slow frequency of cuts help portray an intimate mood desired and felt by the man. The importance of the rhetorical question 'Won't You Stay With Me' is effective in creating and setting the mood; expressing the mans emotion, possibly being woeful. Throughout the music video, it is evident that Sam Smith is walking towards the camera, creating the effect of a long lasting journey that never ends, this is shown by the use of a mid-shot; potentially even a tracking shot as we're following him on his journey. This is an amplification as it refers to a lonely man, on his way down, towards a church. The associations with it, for example, the rhetorical question 'Won't You Stay With Me' could be associated with a funeral, helping to emphasis the dismal.
Red Hot Chili Peppers: Can't Stop - Dysjuncture.
The idea behind this song in relation to the music video is completely ignoring the song's meaning or concept. In this music video, there is a whole new set of assumptions/meanings to make as the music video doesn't tend to make a lot of sense and often uses quite abstract imagery. At times, there is a man with a bucket on his head for no reason at all. There is no meaning behind the notion to put a bucket on his head as the lyric doesn't match the imagery shown. Also, there was a point in the video where there is a man with a cardboard box over his head whilst the lyric 'Complete The Motion If You Stumble' was playing. There are no connotations behind it, but simply doing it because it potentially creates a completely new different meaning. The words in the song are somewhat random collection of thoughts, with some creative rhyming thrown in to fit the rhythm of the song. The song encourages the listener to live with passion and individuality (This life is more than just a read through) something the Chili peppers have done throughout their career.
